Rangers pull off a cup upset

Stanhope & Beaver Rangers ended Kennington’s county cup ambitions.

They returned from Sandyacres surprise 3- 2 winners to go through to the last 32 of the Kent Sunday Premier Cup.

Goals from Luke Walder, Joe Burden and Tom Collins did the damage and Rangers now face West Kent League side Green Lane in the third qualifying round.

Kennington replied with two goals from Robbie Greenfield.

Keeper Dan Noden inspired Fox Sunday’s progressio­n to the third round of the Kent Sunday Junior Trophy as Ben Rolfe’s side beat Division 2 rivals Burton Grove on penalties after the two sides were locked at 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Noden saved a 90th minute penalty as well as two more spot kicks in the shootout before going on to score the match winning penalty to send the home side through.

Ashford Cavaliers had their county cup hopes dashed as they lost 5-2 at Tonbridge Origin in their rearranged second round tie. Ben Harding and Paul Mabb scored Cavaliers’ goals.

Cheriton dumped Premier Division side Mersham Sports out of the Bodkin Cup, winning 4-2.

Cheriton found themselves 2-0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Ben Ashton and Jack Taylor, but Mersham brought it back to 2-2 early in the second period with Ewan Stanley and player-manager Rob Clark on target. Mersham were reduced to 10 men for the final 20 minutes following Steve Tanner’s red card and Cheriton took full advantage with both Ashton and Taylor scoring again.

Dan Arnold netted five times as Division 1 strugglers Hythe Royal British Legion knocked out Premier Division Lolzors, winning 6-0 at South Road. Bryn Yorath added a sixth for

Hythe RBL.

Premier Division leaders Bromley Green needed extratime to get past Division 1 Folkestone United 6-3. Two goals apiece from Casper Floyd and Connor Gower led the scoring for the Green before additional strikes from Luke Burdon and Ryan Carter sealed the victory despite efforts from Josh Baker, Ryan Lowe and Robbie Westbrook for United.

Dion Orris scored twice as Ashford Genclik moved into the next round, beating fellow Division 1 side Appledore 4-3 away. Jack Cossey and Emin Yalcin also scored for the visitors, with Craig Pierce and Alaric Sam on target for the Smugglers.

In the Premier Division, Red Heathens recovered from trailing 2-1 at half time to defeat Nailbox 4-2. Two goals from

Adam Ghidaoui put Nailbox ahead but Heathens responded through Lewis Fuller, Adam Filmer, Artsoms Andrejevs and Tommy Head.

Aldington went second in Division 1 following their 6-2 win at Lydd Grasshoppe­rs. Matt Moon (2), Alex Williams, Chris Cryer, Ryan Norman and Ben Hunt scored for the visitors, with Aurin Johnson and Joe Lehmann replying.

Nathan Sims scored five times as Division 2 leaders AFC Guildhall moved into the quarter-finals of the Sheber Trophy with a 7-5 extra time victory at Park Farm Rangers.

They will now take on Division 3 side Smeeth & Brabourne in the last eight as Max Brady scored a 20-minute hat-trick in their 3-3 draw at home to Ashford United 3rds, before the villagers triumphed on penalties. United’s goals came from Craig Hagley (2) and Alessandro Davitti.

Troggs moved level on points with Guildhall at the top of Division 2 after winning 5-0 at

Biddenden, with goals from Ben Allen (2), Alex Philpott (2) and Rob Giles.

Late goals from Stefan Dalton and Adam Aldridge rescued a point for Ashford Spartans, who drew 3- 3with South Willesboro­ugh. Spartans took an early lead through Tom Wilkes, but the Frog Islanders went 3-1 ahead through Mark Hilden, Joe Mant and Tommy Wadman.

Hat-tricks from Ashley Sales and Ben Parker, plus a Stanley Dickson saw Folkestone United Reserves return from Kingsnorth Pilgrims 7- 1 winners. Dan Rogers scored with a deflected effort for Kingsnorth.

Mersham Sports Reserves maintained their 100% winning start with a 9-1 victory against Aldington Reserves, Luke Goddard scoring four times.

Matt Pearce, Ollie Butcher and Nathan Lakra ensured Charing Reserves recorded their first league victory of the season, beating Pilgrims 3-2.
