Back to business on return
through Myezwa with their fourth, bonus point, try. Gray converted to make it 26-7
Having shown their best side for half an hour, in the concluding minutes of the first half Ashford conspired to demonstrate their negative side, with two players being yellow carded for relatively minor offences.
The loss of two players disrupted the side’s pattern of play but fortunately this was not reflected on the scoreboard, the only reversal being a 38th minute penalty that left the halftime score at 26-10.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Ashford dominated the opening minutes of the second half. A drive from a line-out led to a second try for Brown, converted by Gray.
The following 15 minutes were, however, marked by an Uckfield revival, with tries in the 45th and 55th minutes.
As the game entered its last quarter, Uckfield were within two scores of overtaking Ashford, but the home re-estalished their supremacy two late scores, the first from Myezwa for his hat-trick, the second from Danny Bushell. Two Gray conversions rounded off the scoring.
