TEN-MAN CANNONS FIGHT BACK FROM A TWO NIL DEFICIT TO EARN SHARE OF SPOILS

-

have handled a goal-bound shot on the line. The referee pointed to the spot and also reached for a red card to reduce the Cannons to 10 men.

Bentley Graham sent Godmon the wrong way to double the Whyteleafe lead.

To their credit, Hythe began to carry the game to their opponents with Flisher the driving force.

First he pinged a shot across the face of goal after latching on to a loose ball, and then he was just unable to capitalise on a Tom Carlton cross which was deflected in his direction. Carlton saw an effort go wide from Flisher’s cross but Hythe survived a scare on 19 minutes when Ross Ibbertson cleared as a shot from Corie Andrews rolled towards the goal line. Flisher continued to be prominent, providing the cross from which Stephen

Okoh slid the ball just wide and the same player had an effort comfortably saved by Whyteleafe keeper Tyler McCarthy.

The opening stages of the second half belonged to the visitors with substitute Tyrese Sunderland’s shot easily held by Godmon, who then did well to block from Mensah.

Slowly, though, Hythe grew in confidence and just moments after Flisher’s cross had eluded Kiernan Hughes-Mason, the former Maidstone man gave the hosts a 62nd-minute lifeline beating McCarthy after working himself into a shooting position.

Within four minutes Hythe were level, player-of-the-match Flisher moving along the touchline before looping in a cross to Coyle who headed in at the far post.

The equaliser was no more than the hosts deserved and they almost went ahead when Carlton’s shot from the right struck the upright. Coyle saw his header from a James Rogers corner blocked and with just a minute of normal time left.

Hythe: Godmon, Divine, Simpson, Rogers, Coyle, Adonis-Taylor, Carlton, Ibbertson, Flisher, HughesMason (Brown 81 mins), Okoh Walmsley 45 mins). Subs not used: Brown, Eka, Nicholls. Att: 214.
