Ashford United manager Tommy Warrilow says fixing the team’s current form remains his top priority.
He went part way to doing that with an encouraging 4-3 win at Whyteleafe on Tuesday night as United ended a sequence of three straight defeats in Isthmian South East.
His team sit sixth in the table, eight points behind leaders Cray Valley but with two games in hand, and Warrilow insists he is keen to improve the consistency of performances.
Following Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat to VCD he said: “I’ve been here before, and I’m not one to panic.”
He added: “I’m looking to re- start and re- boot our campaign to get it back on track, because it’s going to be a long season – no-one has won anything at Christmas or in January.
“It’s about staying in and around the top places in the pack and making sure you don’t lose track of what you’re trying to do at the start of the season, and that’s my message.”
The Nuts & Bolts, who had just seven players in the side at one point during the summer, have arguably been struggling with a lack of squad depth throughout the campaign.
Warrilow, who re- signed midfielder Laurent Mendy earlier this week, believes the arrival of new players in the transfer market can help propel the Homelands outfit back into the play-off places.
He added: “I’m not hiding behind the fact we’re a new team.
“All teams take time to gel, but we were honest enough at the start when we were winning our games, to feel that something wasn’t right.
“I’m hoping there will be some new faces in and that the players will look around and see that we’re doing something about it.
“We lost on Saturday because the other team wanted it more than us.
“Some of the last few games I think we’ve been okay, but we’ve not had all the results.
“Sevenoaks was a good performance in the Kent Cup, so perhaps not playing the other week against Chichester lost us momentum again.”
United are again in league action when they travel to Herne Bay on Saturday, before they play their final Velocity Trophy group stage fixture at home to Faversham on Tuesday.
