Keepers perform cup heroics

Fox Sunday and Mersham Sports Reserves both progressed to the last-16 of the Kent Sunday Junior Trophy thanks to heroics from their respective goalkeeper­s in reschedule­d third round ties.

Dan Noden saved two spot kicks for Fox Sunday who went through thanks to a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Division 2 rivals Troggs, with the keeper then converting from 12 yards to secure the win.

During normal time Fox recovered from going 3- 0 down as Troggs raced into a comfortabl­e lead through Alex Philpott, Sam Lopez and Ben Allen.

Fox got back into the game when Denzel Ndoko fired home a free kick before Junior Brown converted a 65th minute penalty and Byron Price grabbed an equaliser with a lob.

Troggs thought they had won the game when Ben Allen headed in from an 89th minute corner, but Fox came back again to level things up through Brown.

Another goalkeeper proved to be the difference as Mersham Sports Reserves beat Singleton Barn 5-4 on penalties after the two Division 3 sides drew 2-2 in normal time. Andrew Possee saved three penalties in the shootout to help send the villagers safely through. Luke Goddard had scored twice for Mersham but Singleton hit back through Bradley Freund and George Lloyd.

Brewmaster moved six points clear at the top of the Premier Division, winning 7-0 at Nailbox. Piers Fuchter hit a first half hat-trick and there were further goals from Brad Burton, Ben Squires-Quinn and Matt Goldsmith.

Kennington eased their way in the second round of the Ashford Charity Trophy with a 11-0 win at Biddenden. Both Antonio Comparetto and Callum O’Neill netted hat-tricks, Kieran Lynn a brace, with further strikes from Carlum Macleod, Steve Tutt and Kris Melachrino.

Bradley Baker scored twice as Market Hotel beat Horsebox Bars 4-0 in the second round of the Bodkin Cup. Reece Mortimer and Gary Lockyer were also on target.

Sellindge are through to the quarter-finals as they won 9-2 at Charing, with Liam Middleton grabbing a hat-trick.

Tony Dunham, Kieran Byrne and James Gibson all scored twice, while at the other end visiting Dan Green saved two penalties. Charing scored through Ben Harte and Glen Hothersall.

Bromley Green eased past Hythe Royal British Legion 12-2 to book a place in the semi-finals of the competitio­n, Luke Burdon netting five times.

In Division 1, New Aldington beat Appledore 2-0 with goals from Alex Williams and Matt Moon.

Robbie Westbrook continued his excellent recent scoring form, netting four times to help Folkestone United to a 6-3 win at Cheriton. Keeper Josh Allon pulled off two penalty saves to help to secure the points, while Callum Russell and Danny Clark were also on target.

Cheriton scored through Teddy Easthope, Ben Ashton and Jack Taylor.

Ashford Spartans beat Lolzors Reserves 4-1 in Division 2. Tom Wilkes, Ben Deeble-Rogers, Daryl Whiffen and Liam Edmonds did the damage, with Stephen Fuller netting Lolzors’ goal.

Dan Hall scored a hat-trick for Park Farm Rangers who beat Ashford Cavaliers 7-2.

Tyler Loosemore (2), Adam Draper-Lewis and Mark Potten were also on target. Cavaliers replied through Neil Cheesman and Paul Mabb (penalty).

South Willesboro­ugh continued their excellent cup form with a 4- 3 extra- time victory away Burton Grove to progress to the last-eight of the Sheber Challenge Trophy. Dion Fitzgerald scored with a longrange effort to seal the win in the 117th minute in extra-time.

Division 2 leaders AFC Guildhall went through to the last four of the Sheber Trophy, beating Smeeth & Brabourne 3-0, with goals from Steven Masters, Stuart Graham and Nathan Simms.

Ashley Sales scored four goals as Division 3 leaders Folkestone United Reserves defeated Charing Reserves 9-0.

Further efforts from Ben Parker, Ryan Jeffrey, Stanley Dickson, Jevon Hrabowecky­j and an own goal completed the rout.

Tom McDonald’s hat-trick helped Ashford United 3rds to a 4-0 win over Kingsnorth Pilgrims. Substitute Liam Overy wrapped up the victory with a late goal.
