Bosses say sorry over flats hold-up

Residents left waiting for riverside scheme

-

Developers behind a huge housing scheme have apologised to residents after the project was hit by delays.

The first tenants were expected to move into Riverside Park in Leacon Road in the first quarter of 2019.

But the project - which is being built next to Victoria Park on the former Powergen site - has faced hold-ups in recent months, leaving residents in the lurch.

One would-be resident said their initial move-in date of October was pushed back, leaving them without a place to live.

Real estate investment company GRE Assets and Quinn Estates are behind the scheme, with work beginning in the spring of 2017.

It features 660 flats including one and three-bed properties and a number of town houses.

In a statement from GRE Assets and Quinn Estates, the developers apologised for the hold-up.

“We are aware that a number of people have voiced concerns at delays to moving in dates for Riverside Park in Ashford,” they said.

“These delays relate to apartments that form part of the first phase of the development.

“While this is entirely regrettable, developments of this size and complexity can face challenges in delivery.

“That is no different for Riverside Park, where factors including roadworks, utilities and weather conditions have contributed to delays.

“The priority has been to work towards resolving all of these challenges before new residents are moved in.

“We are pleased to confirm that the first set of apartments are now ready.

“Those people waiting to move in have all been notified.

“We are now doing all we can to get the remainder of this phase in and will provide those waiting to move in with regular updates.

Estates would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the inconvenience experienced by those affected.

“People are now being moved into their homes and this will continue over the next few weeks.”
