Council missing out on big prize

- Dee Collins Ashford Freddie Clements Singleton

‘The Marlowe Theatre underwent a multi-million pound renovation at the turn of the decade and has become one of the city’s biggest attractions.

‘More than 420,000 people visit each year, with the theatre saying Canterbury’s economy benefits from an extra £34 million as a result.’ Perhaps Ashford Borough Council should read this.

The words of the late Jim Bowen come to mind - ‘take a look at what you could have won’.

On another note, I’m sorry - am I on a different planet to the council? They suggested renaming Station Road because it doesn’t lead to the station. The station is situated on Station Road! Station Road leads to the station! For pity’s sake, have they nothing better to do?

The amount of visitors that would get and the extra money. £34 million would come to Ashford’s ecomony.

That makes more sense than an ‘outdoor theatre’!

The signs would read in the winter ‘Welcome to Ashford, come watch a show in the outside theatre and freeze and get wet. But don’t worry, Ashford council think you will enjoy it!

Once again I will say this, we have a ready-made theatre that just needs a couple of thousand to do up. They have the money because they have money put aside for demolition.

I think it would revitalise the town at night and bring people from far and wide.

I notice the council spent lots building an industrial estate on Cobbs Wood by Jewson which is still empty.

I hope they do what they were elected to do, carry out our wishes and turn it into a theatre, it makes sense.

Stop finding excuses like if we knock it down you can see the church better or we found asbestos!
