Sunday January 19, 10.30am, in the Stone Church, which will be a joint service for Appledore and Stone congregation’s. It will be a Plough Service. Plough Sunday is when the traditional farming year began. Years ago, a ploughshare would be brought to the Church to be blessed and the fields around would also be blessed. Now the service is a celebration of farming. All welcome.
Book Club: A select group of Book Club members met in the Black Lion this week. Many of the Club were on holiday or in bed with the current virus. However those who went discussed
December’s book, ‘The Lost Ancestor’ by Nathan Dylan Goodwin. This is the second in a series of genealogical crime mystery books. We enjoyed the first in November and all agreed that the second was also good. For January, we decided to have a change and read ‘All the Light We Cannot See’ by Anthony Doerr. This is about a French girl and a German boy who meet in France during World War 2. The next meeting Wednesday February 12, 7pm.
