Win puts Ton top of the pile

SNODLAND TOWN 0 KENNINGTON 1

-

A first-half Joe Fisher penalty was enough to see Kennington to victory at Snodland Town and move them top of the Southern Counties East Division 1 table. Fisher struck his third goal in consecutive games to clinch maximum points for

Dan Scorer’s side, in difficult conditions at the Potyns Sports Ground.

The left-sided midfielder had also popped up with an extratime winner in last Wednesday’s 3-2 SCEFL Challenge Cup victory against Premier Division Lordswood at Homelands, to see Ton secure a quarter-final spot. It was an eighth league win in nine for Ton at the weekend, who hit the top spot after 19 league outings with 39 points. Rusthall are a point and a game behind in second, with four promotion spots available this season from Division 1.

Scorer said: “It was very difficult for both sides with the pitch only holding up for a short time before players were slipping everywhere – but we still continued to try and build with patience and had control of the game. The penalty certainly helped settled the nerves a bit, but after that both sides were really fighting for set-pieces. “When you’re one-up it becomes more difficult to manage the game, and it opened up in the last 20 minutes, but I was pleased with how we coped and dug-in to get the result after a big shift on Wednesday, and probably should have got more than just the one.” Ton are in the Kent Senior

Cup on Saturday, travelling to Premier Division Corinthian for a quarter-final tie.

Kennington: Mant, Hughes, Crimmen, Phillips, Sedenu, Clarke, Brown, King (Calvert 65), Lockyer, Philpott (Conlon 80), Fisher (Haylock-Ashdown 55). Unused subs: Lavender, Latham.
