Find out the best place and time to take driving test

It’s one of the most nerve-wracking experiences would-be motorists face but the feeling that comes with passing your driving test is unparalleled.

From hill starts to pulling out at busy junctions learning to drive is often a tricky and costly venture.

Fear not, for hope is at hand with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency revealing the best (and worst) places to take your test in Kent.

The latest pass rates across the county from April until Septem- ber 2019 have been published and the results are in.

Sevenoaks was revealed as the best place for learners with 51.4% of all drivers meeting the grade.

The only other test centre where more than half of motorists taking their test scored a pass was Tunbridge Wells, with 50.6%.

It was less good news for learners sitting their test in Folkestone, with 40.9% receiving their certificate – the lowest of all eight centres across the county.

If you are looking to beat the rush you might want to avoid Tuesdays with more than 10,000 tests taken on this day, higher than any other.

Of these, 1,340 were taken at 10.14am – at a pass rate of 46% – as the day proved the hardest weekday to conquer the test.

It wasn’t all bad news for drivers heading out on the second day of the week, as those sitting their test at 1.35pm recorded the highest number of successes with 624.

Statistically, learners who book their test on a Saturday are most likely to tear up their L plates with 49% achieving this feat.

There is finally a reason to like Monday too with it proving the best weekday to gain your licence at 47.3%.

And the most popular place to take your driving test was Gillingham with 4,504 tests conducted at the centre between April until September last year.

In the age-old battle of the sexes, there was a definitive victor with Kent men outperforming women across all eight test centres – despite the fairer sex taking more tests.

The best place for men was Tunbridge Wells with 54.2% passing, whereas women fared better at Sevenoaks where 49.6% picked up their P plates.

Herne Bay proved a trickier venue with just 37.5% of females passing compared to their male counterparts who recorded 49%.

The most likely reason for failing your test was listed as junctions and observations – the same as it was nationally.
