Support charity for the blind as it marks 100 years
KAB has helped thousands since 1920
A vital organisation celebrating its centenary in 2020 has been chosen as our charity of the year.
Kent Association for the Blind was set up in 1920 to support soldiers who had been blinded during the First World War and currently supports around 12,500 people with a sight impairment to live more independently.
Practical and emotional support is given to people irrespective of how much they can see, whether it is to get to the local shops safely or to provide advice on aids and adaptations for the home.
As only 4% of the people who are registered as sight impaired are completely blind, the charity aims to help people make the best use of the vision they have.
Sue Piper, head of fundraising for the charity, said: “We’re so delighted to be chosen as charity of the year.
“We have a long history in Kent and with the KM Group, with articles about KAB featured within the newspapers dating back to 1921.
“We hope you’ll be hearing more about our work throughout the year and be inspired to support us in our very special centenary year.”
The charity is planning 100 events throughout the year to mark its centenary.
You can help to support Kent Association for the Blind by taking part an event, whether it’s as energetic as a run or bike ride or as relaxing as a Cup of Tea for KAB event.
