More luck building flats in town than moving market

- James Street, Ashford Brian Etherington Chilham Bob Maxted Kennington

May I, on behalf of the Ashford town market stall holders, offer a footnote on our endeavour to move the market to the Upper High Street.

During this time of endeavour we did not hear or see one word in support from the opposition on the council.

The question then is, what use are they and who do they serve, what purpose are they there for?

We are aware that two councillors are against the move of the market and can only assume that they have a reason for doing so.

On leaving the meeting of November 11, 2019, we were told that our proposal of a trial for 12 months in Upper High Street would be looked at but not before Christmas.

On December 18, Cllr Clokie wrote to stall holders to say that we would not be moving.

Had we applied to build a block of flats in Upper High Street, we would have had a better result, no problem there. We would like to express our thanks to Stuart Barton in his support of the market, thank you.

Ashford town centre is turning into a soulless place and very little reason to visit.

The councillors and officers - most probably not living in Ashford making the decisions on the town centre will walk away but we will be left with their legacy. So sad.

P. J. Rosson horse in my book. Ignore us at your peril - look what happened to the Labour party.

Remember Peter, you stood with the council on the proposed destruction of the Odeon theatre, the very thing that would help your business.

We did notice one of your CDs was ‘Music Hall’. How ironic, I bet you wish you had gone with your fellow townspeoples wishes now!
