Club ensure that race is big success

Ashford & District RRC were out in force to support the Girlings Solicitors A&D 10k on Sunday.

Marshals cheered runners around the course and provided hospitalit­y at race headquarte­rs at The Towers School, while Paul Moses saw the front runners across the finish line.

In its 31st year, the event proved as popular as ever, with more than 450 runners taking part.

Marking her A&D debut, Naomi Attenborou­gh finished the race well within the top 30 ladies, in 51min 49sec.

Mike Davis put in a stellar performanc­e at the Chichester 10k on Sunday, finishing third V70 with a time of 43.37 and earning an invitation to represent England at the Age Group Masters. Andrew Noble completed the course in 38.45.

In her debut run for the club, Lesley Taylor crossed the finish line in personal best of 44.02, finishing ninth in her age group.

Off-road, an A&D quartet represente­d the club at the hilly Bedgebury Forest 10 mile race. Christine Costiff (1hr 20min 19sec) and Gill O’Connor (1:25.38) finished first and second V55, respective­ly. Hot on their heels, Ingvild Drake then crossed the finish line in 1:25.46. Keith Lynn was next home for the club in 1.34:32.

On the Isle of Wight, Steve Hickman completed the Ryde 10 in 1:38.04.

Ashford’s parkrun saw Dan Green (19.42), Paul Moses (20.06) and Scott Lynch (20.15) finish 6th, 8th and 9th, respective­ly.

■ A total of 287 people took part in Saturday’s parkrun and celebratin­g personal bests were Ashford Striders Julia Woollaston and Emma Bowden.

The first Strider to finish was Brian Marsh (24.42), closely followed by Shane Snowwolf (24.44) and Gwen Protheroe (25.37).

Strider volunteers this were Lee Standen, Claire Poile and Kay Devereaux.

Simon Howard-Smith travelled to Whitstable and completed the parkrun in 36.33.

At Bedgebury, Kevin York (51.15) and Rachel Theobald (51.16) completed the 5 mile race and Sara Hunt the 10 mile in 1:45.40.

Ashford Striders took the best represente­d club award at the Ashford & District 10k on Sunday. First home for

Striders was Chris Sardo in 44.43, followed by Tom Hughes 46.22 and Jason Wearn 48.11.
