Teenager triumphs
Ashford & District 10k
Teenager Charlie Brisley set the fastest time since 2011 as he won the Girlings Solicitors Ashford & District 10k for the second year in row at the weekend.
The 18-year-old Invicta East Kent runner led from start to finish, completing Sunday’s race in a time of 31min 45sec to take the £100 first prize.
The conditions were good for running, and despite some early rain it was dry for the race.
Adrian Mussett finished second in 33.11, with Ashford AC’s Harrison Tremain third (34.00).
First in the ladies’ race was Nikki Goodwin, of Folkestone Running Club, in a time of 42.10.
The victory was particularly sweet for Goodwin who had a difficult year in 2019 following a nasty injury.
It was a good day out for Folkestone Running Club, who scooped both the men’s and women’s team prizes.
Barry Hopkins, from organisers Sporting Events UK, said: “This is a great early season event, giving runners a chance to test themselves early season, or for those starting their running journey a chance to try out an event for the first time.
“We watched the weather as usual and luckily enough the rain passed before runners arrived. This did leave a few puddles along the way and a few muddy sections on the country lanes but was almost ideal conditions.
“We were pleased after a couple of years of less kind weather conditions!
“This event continues to be popular, even after 30 years, and the switch to a new race HQ at The Towers School was definitely a good move with the great facilities and parking there.
“Everyone had a good time and for us that is the most important thing. We just want everyone to enjoy themselves.”
