Collin finds a way through

HYTHE TOWN 1 HERNE BAY 1

-

Frannie Collin’s third goal in as many games earned Hythe a point after they had trailed for more than 40 minutes at Reachfields on Saturday.

The experienced front man turned home Ross Ibbertson’s cross 14 minutes from time to help extend Hythe’s unbeaten run to four games.

The game brought together two of the form teams in Isthmian South East and a draw was probably a fair result.

Bay, who had held leaders Hastings at home in midweek, created the first opportunity when Tushaun Walters dispossessed Nathan Gordon before sending a lob that cleared the crossbar. Collin then played in Tom Murphy but the Hythe forward couldn’t quite get enough power on his shot which was deflected away for a corner. Chances continued to come at both ends with former Hythe favourite Zak Ansah playing in another ex-Cannon Kieron Campbell who pushed his attempt just wide.

Hythe then began to take the initiative with Charlie Webster firing across the face of the goal before James Rogers saw his effort deflected wide. Another former Hythe player, Callum Adonis-Taylor, then cleared a dangerous cross from Jamie Coyle before, against the run of play, Bay broke the deadlock in somewhat controversial fashion. Tom Carlton’s 32nd minute corner was deflected into his own net by Alex Flisher with the home side adamant keeper Will Godmon had been fouled.

The referee did consult with his assistant but decided that the goal should stand.

The goal seemed to lift Bay and Hythe were grateful for Coyle’s excellent last-gasp challenge as Walters broke, and Carlton the saw his attempted lob bounce on the top of the crossbar.

Godmon was well placed to gather Bola Dawodu’s shot and, as the first half went into stoppage time, Hythe had two good chances to equalise.

The first fell to Walder whose curling free-kick was saved by George Kamurasi who then denied Coyle from Walder’s corner.

The second half started with Hythe’s Rogers doing well to dispossess Walters while at the other end Murphy cut in only to shoot over.

Bay’s Ansah pulling a shot wide and Campbell forced a save from Godmon before Hythe deservedly drew level on 76 when Collin was on hand to roll the ball home from Ibbertson’s centre.
