Collin double enough for Town

WHYTELEAFE 0 HYTHE TOWN 2

-

Frannie Collin scored twice as Hythe returned from Whyteleafe with a welldeserved victory.

The Cannons finished Saturday’s game with 10 men after Alex Flisher’s disputed 76th-minute red card, but were good value for the points.

Hythe, making a conscious decision to be more open, had the best of the first half, putting on all the early pressure.

They were rewarded on 13 minutes as Collin’s 25-yard free-kick sailed past keeper Tyler McCarthy.

The visitors continued to press with Kaka Dembele’s cross just evading Flisher and soon added their second goal. It came on 18 minutes with Flisher saving the ball from going out of play and pulling it back to Alex Brown, who teed up Collin’s emphatic finish.

Will Godmon denied the dangerous Corie Andrews but Hythe remained on top with Flisher shooting just wide and Charlie Webster blasting over. Another chance fell Webster’s way at the start of the second half, breaking free after dispossessing Jamie McGeoghegan but firing wide, while McCarthy tipped a dipping shot from Brown over the bar.

A last-gasp tackle from the impressive Nathan Gordon denied Andrews at the other end before Flisher sliced wide. That was the Cannons forward’s last contribution before a bizarre red card after an accidental coming-together with a Whyteleafe player after clearing the ball.

Hythe’s 10 men stood firm as Whyteleafe pushed in the closing stages.

Alastair Gordon’s shot didn’t test Godmon and the same player was denied by a superb challenge by Dembele.

Deep into injury time, Ryan Gondoh hooked a free-kick wide and Hythe held on to go 10th in Isthmian South East. Hythe: Godmon, Dembele, Gordon, Rogers, Coyle, Wynter, Webster, Oldaker (Trespaderne 90mins), Flisher, Collin (Murphy 80mins), Brown (Walmsley 80mins).

Attendance: 94.
