Messages flood in for ill Boris

-

Kent MPs have sent their best wishes to Boris Johnson and are willing him to fight through after the PM was taken into intensive care.

The 55-year-old was moved on the advice of his medical team on Monday as his coronavirus symptoms “worsened”.

He was admitted to St Thomas’ Hospital opposite the House of Commons on Sunday.

A campaign to show support by clapping for the Prime Minister at 8pm on Tuesday was set up and gained almost 50,000 supporters.

Mr Johnson tested positive for the virus 12 days ago. Many cases make a recovery after about 10 days, however, the PM’s condition has worsened.

County MPs took to Twitter to show their support for the Tory Party leader.

North Thanet’s Sir Roger Gale says the nation “must come to together to pray for Mr Johnson, his family and especially his fiancee Carrie”.

Tonbridge and Malling’s Tom Tugendhat wished “God’s strength” for the PM and said he was deeply touched by the kind messages sent to him in support for Mr Johnson.

Chatham and Aylesford’s Tracy Crouch said: “Come on B, you got this. You can beat this. My love goes out to Carrie.”

Rochester and Strood’s Kelly Tolhurst said: “My thoughts and prayers are with our Prime Minister and his family. Praying for a speedy recovery as he fights this virus.”

At the time of going to press, Mr Johnson remained in hospital where he was said to be in stable condition.

Although he has needed oxygen, he hadn’t required a ventilator to help him breath.

On Saturday, his pregnant fiancee, Carrie Symonds, also confirmed she had suffered minor symptoms but was now through the worst of it.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab is currently chairing key government meetings in Mr Johnson’s absence.

He said: “All of our thoughts and prayers are with the Prime Minister at this time, with Carrie, and with his whole family.

“And I’m confident he’ll pull through because if there’s one thing I know about him, he’s a fighter.

“And he’ll be back at the helm, leading us through this crisis in short order.”

The PM also received messages of support from world leaders.
