Look out for others and stop whingeing

-

I have spent the last few weeks doing as I am told, mainly to protect myself and my wife but also not to put others at risk.

At the beginning, our road was relatively quiet but that gave the chance to those who were still using it to break the speed limit and to overtake where they felt like it. There seems to be a lack of understanding about what the restrictions are when you have street lights.

As the weeks have gone on I have noticed an increase in traffic to the point where the gap between vehicles is about 10 seconds. Not only that but speed has increased and there seems to be an enormous number of very large commercial vehicles from the UK and also from all over Europe. Where are all these vehicles are going to, is what is beginning to puzzle me.

A lot of people are going out for walks and in most cases give a wide berth to others. However, when large family groups come racing down the footpath on bicycles, life can become very difficult. We seem to have forgotten that footpaths are for people on foot, roads are for bicycles.

There also seems to be a lot of people who don’t understand

(or probably don’t want to understand) what lockdown means and visit other houses, ride their bikes and motorbikes in large groups, cause a fracas outside a pub, test their fast cars and motorbikes, just because the roads are a bit emptier.

I want to come out of this lockdown sooner than later but only if it is safe to do so and people abide by the rules.

Can we as a nation, stop whingeing and realise that the end to all of this is in our hands and that this is not the time to play politics or pursue your hatred of government.

Let’s show the rest of the world that we are all Captain Toms. Don Wright
