All the right moves

-

Housebuilders are once again opening up their show homes this week as prospective buyers get the chance to turn their dreams into reality.

With the relaxation of the strict lockdown guidelines eased last week, many housebuilders are looking to once again allow househunters the chance to view first hand the latest developments - or, of course, you can take a virtual tour of most major developments online.

In addition, it will allow those buyers who had to put plans on hold ahead of the lockdown to resume the house-buying process.

And with Rightmove reporting visits to its site rising 20% since the start of the lockdown, the appetite to kick-start the housing market is clearly strong.

The new build market has always been a popular route for many - and that is only likely to grow as we adjust to a ‘new normal’.

Not only do they come with 10-year building guarantees to provide peace of mind, but buying early can allow alterations to be made to your home to make it just right for you. And with many having experienced home-working for the first time, getting an office including to the floor plan could be your ticket to that precious home and worklife balance.

Major housebuilders Taylor Wimpey and Redrow were both planning to re-open sales offices this week with additional social distancing measures in place to ensure the safety of staff and potential buyers.

John Tutte, executive chairman at Redrow, said: “The reopening of our sales centres and show homes will allow existing customers already midway through the process to recommence their property transaction and for new customers to make appointments to view and reserve a new home.

“Together with the phased return of our construction workers earlier this month, we’re now able to better support our customers throughout their property journey.

“Our aim has been to create a new way of doing things for colleagues, customers and partners, which reflects best practice when it comes to social distancing and reducing the spread of Covid-19.”

Viewings will initially be by appointment only. Strict new social distancing rules will be in place, with enhanced hygiene, regular cleaning, and Perspex screens in place.

After receiving a full briefing on the property by sales staff, only one family at a time will be able to visit a property - a move which for many will only enhance the experience.

And with regular cleaning of the properties being viewed, buyers can do so safe in the knowledge their health is the top priority. What’s more, all documentation will be viewed via technology platforms to prevent any unintentional transmission of the virus.

Persimmon’s chief executive David Jenkinson added: “We support the Government’s view that the housing sector has a key role to play in the UK’s economic recovery. The urgent need for new homes has not been diminished by Covid-19 and the new measures announced by the Government will reopen the housing market and allow people to get moving again.”
