Inequality and racism are not confined to US

masts, a brief history on the unworkability of communism and not very well known facts on herd immunity.

But it is Neil Oldfield’s conundrum on garden waste which I think needs addressing.

The solution is: Splash out £37.50 annually for a second bin. I did this a couple of years ago and not only were all the issues listed resolved there was the additional benefit of fewer insects living in my car.

Barry Hogger of modern living, ‘health and safety’! All of the children that went picking have grown up. None were injured or killed and the younger ones were in the fresh air.

Just over two weeks ago no one knew who George Floyd was.

Then he was choked to death by a police officer called to reports he had used a fake $20. Since then his name has become synonymous with police brutality, inequality and racism.

His death has thrown light on the deeprooted societal issues which still very much exist in 2020 but which many would prefer not to acknowledge.

There have been protests across the world and tensions have soared in the US.

People are understandably worried about mass gatherings during a pandemic but the fact of the matter is if people had not taken to the streets we’d be carrying on as normal - our heads buried in the sand.

What’s clear is the Black Lives Matter movement is a force for good.

People retorting ‘all lives matter’ - as many have and continue to do - may be wellintentioned but are completely missing the point.

It’s the same as people spending International Women’s Day demanding to know when international men’s day is.

It’s the equivalent of me shouting in a bouncer’s face after he’s let me into a nightclub.

We don’t need movements for men’s equality and we don’t need to march to remind people white lives matter.

The uncomfortable reality is inequality and racism are not just confined to Trump’s America - like most things, it’s just far less subtle over there.

Black Brits are 40 times more likely to be stopped and searched, stand significantly more chance of being jailed and significantly less of getting a well-paid job.

All of those things lead to a lack of opportunity, disenfranchisement and gang violence - it’s a vicious cycle perpetuated by the same tired thinking.

Until these issues are spoken about and addressed all lives can’t matter.
