Concerns over estate plans

-

I was horrified to read of the business park estate planned for the fields on farmland near Sandyhurst Lane [Plans emerge for huge estate on edge of town, Kentish Express, June 25].

I was lucky enough to be brought up in the area, my parents having moved down from London in 1953 and built their own bungalow in Sandyhurst Lane.

In those days there was of course no M20 motorway and my sister and I had a brilliant childhood with all the green fields and beautiful surrounding countryside to grow up in.

High on what could be called an area of outstanding natural beauty was the walk by Sandyhurst Farm up to the Warren and witnessing the beautiful views of the North Downs.

From what’s left you still have this lovely view but this will ultimately be destroyed by this business park estate. Is nothing sacred?

Why do we have to keep ruining everything?

The Covid outbreak has surely taught us one thing

– if we allow nature to recover itself, the threat of global warming etc will be diminished.

Paving over yet more swathes of beautiful countryside is not going to help matters.

In any case, with all the rising vacant office space due to the Covid crisis and threat of a recession on the way, there is surely plenty of space for businesses to move into without having to dig-up our beautiful countryside.

Our lovely county of Kent is affectionately known as the ‘Garden of England’.

The way things are going with the Large Burton estate going ahead with just one vote and Otterpool, etc, it is well on the way to be known as ‘the Concrete Jungle of England’.
