Owners issue warning after cats ‘torn apart’ by dogs

-

Devastated owners have issued a warning after three cats were reportedly killed by the same dogs in one night.

The horrific incidents in Kennington have left residents fearing more moggies may be at risk in the area, but police say no criminal offences have taken place.

Mardol Road resident Maxine Goldsmith says she was woken up early in the morning on Friday, July 24 to “quite a bit of commotion”.

Shortly afterwards, her neighbour knocked on her door to break the news that her family’s beloved cat, Dana, had been attacked.

She said: “There were several men laughing and joking, and a lot of barking and squealing.

“At about 1.30am my neighbour knocked on my door to tell me to prepare myself that Dana had been attacked. Unfortunately, by the time I had got there, Dana was already dead.”

Mrs Goldsmith said her neighbour, who tried to intervene in the attack, described the first dog as a red pitbull with no lead, with two other dogs also present.

Tragically, a further two cats would later be found dead in a similar manner, in Guernsey Way and Magazine Road.

A witness to the Guernsey Way attack said the men fled on their bicycles when they heard police were attending.

She said: “I hope getting this out there will mean others don’t have to suffer losing their pets in this way.”

A police spokesman confirmed officers were called to Mardol Road and Guernsey Way, but said “no criminal offences are believed to have taken place”.
