We’re hungry for success

Kennington

-

Dan Scorer insists Kennington’s hunger for success means they will refuse to get complacent in their hunt for this season’s Southern Counties East League Division 1 title.

The Ton boss, whose side have hit 10 goals in just two league games following impressive victories against Sutton United and Holmesdale so far this campaign, have also progressed to the second qualifying round of the FA Vase after defeating step five Erith Town on Sunday.

Scorer admits last season’s premature end and subsequent failure to gain promotion has fuelled his team’s impressive start.

The 29-year-old said: “Momentum has certainly been one of the key factors early on.

“We’re working a lot harder and pressing well from the front, being more clinical, keeping clean sheets, and simply playing with more confidence, too.

“But of course the start doesn’t get any easier over the next three or four weeks, despite the fact we’ve started with an FA Cup game, then had two difficult league games before another match versus Erith.

“We have a massive game at home to Rusthall on Saturday and then Stansfeld after that to come, so there’s absolutely no time to let up, but I think that’s a good thing because it’s going to keep everyone on their toes.

“It’s been difficult to rotate the squad and so annoying for some players who haven’t had many minutes, but it’s a long season and I believe everyone will play their part. “The boys still feel a bit a frustrated that we’re not a step five club this year and rightly so, but that’s made them come back hungrier and with a great mentality and a brilliant desire, so we’re certainly in a good place to kick on, now.”

Scorer also believes his team’s summer acquisitions have also played a significant role in their early success this month.

He explained: “The boys that have come in have all hit the ground running.

“We just all know that if we do go up this year, we’re more than capable of competing next season, too - if that happens we know it wouldn’t be a case of us wondering whether we’re good enough.

“So we’re aware of that and that’s why we’re pushing hard this year to get there.”
