Fifty years of vital help on substances

-

Kenward Trust, a charity based in Yalding, has been providing support to those affected by alcohol and drug addictions for more than 50 years.

Working with the KM Media Group, it hopes the video will reach as many young people aged between 11 and 18 in the county as possible.

The film will be accompanied by three lesson plans, power points, handouts and activities designed to start conversations about drugs and alcohol misuse.

It is available for free to schools and colleges in Kent and funded by Kent-based Colyer-Ferguson Charitable Trust.

Penny Williams, CEO of Kenward Trust says: “We are incredibly passionate about educating young people on the risks, so that they can create their own informed decisions about taking substances, and hopefully prevent more deaths in the future.”

The KM has backed the trust’s Think Differently campaign, which has visited Kent schools since 2016 to shine a light on just how dangerous substance misuse can be.

More than 10,000 young people have participated in its sessions, which include demonstrations and reallife stories from recovering addicts, ex-offenders and grieving parents who have lost children to drugs.

While primarily delivered in schools, the team has also visited scout groups and is looking to expand even further.
