Paying tribute to hospital staff

-

I’m 23 and currently in hospital at the William Harvey.

I have been here for seven weeks.

The nurses and healthcare assistants on Kings B ward are brilliant.

They help with every problem I have.

No matter how busy they are they always find the time for the little things like doing my hair, having a chat with me and playing along with my riddles.

Every time I have a panic attack they hold my hand and talk me out of them.

When I have seizures they talk to me, then when I come out I want to hold someone’s hand and they always do this.

I have treated the nurses and

healthcare assistants to some cupcakes and to a sweet hamper.

These amazing people deserve so much more than they get so I’m going to do as much as I can to show them this.

They really don’t understand how much everything, even down to the little things, helps and how big of a difference it makes to me.

I would like to say thank you. Millie Cook

The September 17 edition of the Kentish Express had a detailed article highlighting the tremendous improvement in Covid-19 statistics, both for Ashford and Kent as a whole.

A few weeks ago Ashford was hitting the headlines as one of the worst places in the country for Covid-19 infections and deaths.

On Saturday lunchtime (September 19) I visited the Tesco Express at Eureka Park, wearing my face covering as required.

I met three young men, probably in their 20s, sauntering around the store and not one of them wearing a face covering.

I asked one of them if there was a good reason why he was not wearing a face covering.

His reply was “I ain’t got one mate”.

While I do not want shop employees to risk verbal and possibly physical abuse, what hope do we have of beating Covid-19 and returning to some sort of normality when people such as these three youths blatantly ignore the law?

Is it any wonder infections are increasing, soon to be followed by more deaths?
