We’re getting even better

-

Dan Scorer says Kennington reaped the rewards for their ‘relentless’ display against Rusthall on Saturday, writes Joe Harbert.

Ton maintained their 100% start to the new Southern Counties East Division 1 campaign with a convincing 4-0 thrashing of another of their biggest rivals last term. When asked whether he felt this was the best football his side have been playing since he took charge of the club back in 2014, manager Scorer replied: “Absolutely. It’s coming from the work we’re putting in from the front and the intensity and high press we’re playing with. “Our front three are working tirelessly and they’re being backed up by the three playing in midfield, and that means the back four, in all fairness, haven’t had a great deal to do.

“But I still have to praise them because in games when they’re not being called upon too much, they’re alive and alert to any threats that have come.

“Momentum is certainly on our side, too - Rusthall came off the back of two defeats, albeit one to a step five side in the FA Vase, so we showed that we’re not going to change our approach depending on who we play.

“It was definitely our best match so far this season, and it’s certainly good that the boys are carrying these performances into the next game each week.

“We were 4-0 up after an hour, so it would have been very easy for us to drop off and allow them the opportunity to get back into the game like we did against Holmesdale.

“But we were completely relentless, so I have to give credit to the boys who made sure we didn’t concede as well and that was brilliant.” Scorer commended the versatility of his side heading into this weekend’s match at Stansfeld, acknowledging they are anything but a oneman team.

He explained: “Last season, Gary Lockyer came back to us and got himself into double figures, Tom Scorer got 14 or 15 goals and Gary Clarke, who is a central midfielder, finished on 19, so we don’t have any players again that we’re relying on. “That’s even more the case now with Callum Peck who is chipping in with goals, as are the likes of Craig Calvert and Robbie Dolan.

“But we go into games every week like Stansfeld on Saturday under no illusion that one is going to be easier than any other.”
