Priti’s plans to curb protest are not very pretty

Handsome is as handsome does; Priti is as Priti does - but sadly that’s not very pretty.

Ms Patel’s latest measure is to produce a bill setting severe limits on our right to protest.

This measure comes after the Clapham Common demonstration and the selective TV coverage of a couple of scuffles between some women and police.

One member of the House of Lords is on record saying ‘the legislation is being rushed through at a time when the public have grown accustomed to having their freedoms restricted as a result of the pandemic.’

Following the criticisms of Napier Barracks as a suitable place in which to cram the people who came to Britain, Ms Patel is now suggesting that those seeking asylum in Britain should be shunted off to various islands where, presumably, any complaints they may have will be unheard.

In last week’s KE, Damian Green declared ‘harassment on the streets is completely unacceptable’. This is pretty self-evident but in reality, it’s not easy to draw definitive lines on such matters. Some women, I know, become upset by wolfwhistles; others less so. I asked Mrs B about the subject. She told me that in her younger days she’d had her share of whistles, had once been groped and twice been flashed at.

On the second occasion, she was returning home after a night shift when she had been giving a number of gents bed-baths. She told the flasher that, since she had just finished bathing half a dozen men, what he had to offer was something of a disappointment.

On a cheerier note, the Japanese people are enjoying the ancient Hanami tradition of viewing emerging blossom to lift the spirits and celebrate nature.

This is something we could all do since many of our roadside areas have been left to grow wild, offering blossoms galore to be enjoyed.
