Young brothers in bid to raise cash for Rainbow Trust

-

Two young brothers are taking on a year-long charity drive which will see them sell their toys and climb a mountain.

Danny Higgins, nine, and seven-year-old brother Connor of Grasmere Road, Kennington, are hoping to raise £1,000 for children’s charity The Rainbow Trust.

So far the pair have raised more than £720, selling some of their toys, holding raffles and even sitting in a bath of baked beans.

However once lockdown eases, their efforts will ramp up, with mum Emma saying they “have a lot more ahead of them including boot fairs, more raffles, a climb up Snowdon in the summer and I’m sure a lot more messy challenges”.

Their chosen charity, The Rainbow Trust, supports families of children up to 18 years old who have a terminal illness.

When asked why the group was selected, Emma said: “The boys chose The Rainbow Trust children’s charity due to lockdown.

“I think for many of us lockdown made us open our eyes more, it made us realise that we took a lot for granted.

“With lockdown came a massive restriction on our day-today life, taking away things that maybe we didn’t appreciate as much as we should have, going out, seeing friends and family, etc.

“The majority of us are now seeing a light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully we will soon be able to enjoy the things we did before.

“The trust works with families who, through illness of a child, have had to deal with the same sort of restrictions but, unfortunately for most, there isn’t a light at the end of their tunnel.

“The charity works with those families to try and make life just that bit easier.”
