Awards for netball duo
Ashford Netball League successfully kept their community together both online and via friendly sessions despite the Covid restrictions. Those that helped have been recognised. Most recently Ashford
Netball League held their 2021 AGM Zoom-style, with chair Gemma Wilkins and vice-chair Gemma Lilly celebrating their first and most challenging year.
During the AGM two members were awarded for their volunteering roles and dedication to the league over the past year.
The Bev Homewood Award is awarded annually to a member who has made an outstanding contribution to Ashford Netball. The 2020 winner was Terrie Ireland. Terrie posted daily on Ashford Netball League’s Facebook page during the lockdown. Her knowledge of netball and her innovative thinking soon came up with something different for each day of the week and she provided daily posts to entertain and connect league members. There were polls, spot the ball, discussion topics, weekly quizzes, videos and a walking challenge. She continues to keep the league connected with her entertaining Facebook posts on a regular basis.
The Unsung Hero Award was presented to Sue Ellis. Sue has been fantastic in motivating and caring for the ladies of the Walking Netball Club throughout the pandemic. Sue’s dedication to the women of the walking netball club ensured they felt a valued part of the netball community.
She kept the group in regular contact through social media and constantly checked everyone was well. Sue also took time out to run several outdoor training sessions for the ladies when the restrictions were lifted in the summer months.
