MAN’S BODY IS FOUND IN FLAT
FORENSIC OFFICERS TAPE OFF FOOTPATH
The body of a man in his 40s has been found in a ground floor flat in Ashford.
Police were called to Grampion Close off Canterbury Road at about 12.25pm on Sunday.
They say the death is currently being treated as unexplained and officers are compiling a report for the coroner.
Part of a footpath between Grampion Close and Canterbury Road was taped off for more than 24 hours while forensic officers worked at the scene.
A neighbour told the Kentish Express how a private ambulance arrived late on Sunday.
“I first knew something had happened when I saw three paramedics and two police officers outside the flat on Sunday morning,” she said.
“As the day progressed, the paramedics left but more officers including a forensic team turned up.
“That’s when I realised something quite bad had happened.”
Grampion Close is on the Quantock Drive estate and can
be accessed via the footpath off Canterbury Road.
“They didn’t tape off the flat and the footpath until Sunday afternoon,” the neighbour added.
“It’s really quiet around here – we hear the odd argument but that’s from people passing through as quite a lot of people use the footpath to get to Sainsbury’s.
“It’s a nice quiet area and all of the neighbours keep themselves to themselves.”
Another witness said police guarded the property overnight and were focusing on the entrance hallway as part of their investigation.
The cordon was lifted at about 9pm on Monday evening.
