Historic mill should be listed

- David Grummitt

I have just heard about East Hill mill possibly being turned into apartments.

Everyone is getting fed-up with building everywhere in Ashford, especially all the new flats/ apartments everywhere, it’s just going to attract the wrong people – crime and drugs are already a problem in Ashford.

Ashford is going to be turned into Stanhope 2.0.

Stanhope had major problems with crime and drugs that was due to flats; they even used to have their own police station on there.

But what did they do? They knocked the flats down and it has now recovered. So why do it to the rest of the town?

Can you tell me why East Hill mill is not a listed building?

It’s an historical building and everyone knows it.

I am writing with reference to your article about the immigration demo that took place in Dover and the comments of the MP Natalie Elphicke: “Todays protesters are not welcome in Dover.”

Quite ironic in that the same was said of the Suffragettes in their day and without their efforts, Natalie Elphicke would not have had this platform to make such comment or judgement.

To summarise the philosophy of those on the moral high ground, if one migrant should gain entry to this country, why not 10? If

10, why not a thousand? If a thousand, why not 100,000, and so on.

The government’s handling of these migrant crossings has been nothing short of farcical. How many times in the past two years have we heard that steps are being taken to prevent these crossings?

The media and politicians have done everything in their power to suppress any differing view to their own ‘herd mentality’, to the point of making people feel embarrassed in holding a different point of view, or holding back in speaking out.
