KentOnline is teaming up with Facebook to offer a fantastic opportunity for an apprentice or trainee reporter to take their first job in journalism. We are offering two routes into journalism through this scheme.

We are looking for an enthusiastic aspiring journalist to join the team at our multimedia newsroom in Medway as our latest Community Reporter.

This fixed term contract is part of a groundbreaking project involving Facebook, the National Council for the Training of Journalists, and local publishers.

We are particularly keen to increase diversity in our newsroom and offer opportunities to those who may not have felt able to break into the media industry.

As a Community Reporter, the main role will be to engage with people in specific communities to curate, collate and create content relevant to them.

For applicants with no previous journalism experience or education, we are offering a journalism apprenticeship, which combines intensive training with on-the-job experience.

For applicants with previous journalism experience or education we are offering a trainee role where support will be provided to obtain the necessary NCTJ qualifications to become a senior reporter.
