Trevor turns up the heat to grab second
Trevor Kay finished runner-up at the Saxon Shore Half Marathon on Sunday.
On the hottest day of the year, runners faced an unforgiving course, including a cruel uphill finish.
But that didn’t stop Ashford & District man Kay taking second place in a personal best of 1hr 21min 49 - an amazing run in the conditions.
Clubmate Paul Ridley was sixth in 1:25.17, Scott Lynch took 12th and first V50 in 1:27.27 and Paul Moses was 16th and third V50 with 1:29.49.
Other times: Adrian Moody 1:48.29 (10th V50), Hugh Scarlin 1:53.51, Matt Hardwick 1:56.48, Stu Nunn 1:58.05, Aaron Homewood 2:21.42.
Linda-Jean Delport finished fourth woman and third in age group with 1:43.28, while another quality run from Chris Costiff clinched ninth overall and second in age category, in 1:46.09.
Lesley Taylor continued her comeback from injury with 1:55.24, for 20th place and third in age category.
Other times: Emma Hanna 1:56.54 (9th in age group), Massa Cooper 2:12.13, Lucy Johnstone 2:25.32, Sarah Homewood 2:31.42, Lesley Moody 2:38.17, Sarah Taylor 2:46.36.
Elsewhere, Rik Holden recorded 3:55.38 at the Punk Run Trail Marathon, which saw runners battle through brambles and crouch under obstacles and low trees.
That followed his winning time of 3:47.22 at the SVN D Day Marathon route at Betteshanger.
Gill O’Connor finished second in age category at the Downey Lakes 10k with 50.51 and Becky Hodgson completed the Runbelievable Gothic Challenge Half Marathon in 3:39.39.
Earlier this month, Costiff (46.25) was first in age group at the Bedgebury Summer Series 10k, with Scarlin (50.48) close behind, followed by Keith Lynn (56.43) and Sarah Taylor (1:10.01).
O’Connor (25.01) was second woman and first in age group in the 5k.
Stephen Hickman ran the hot and hilly High Elms 10k in 1:03.32.
The Hodges family stole the show for Ashford & District at the Tenterden 10k.
Jack Hodges (43.57) finished seventh in his first-ever race, brother and fellow debutant Kieran (45.39) took ninth and their dad, Steve, was 10th and first in age group in 46.09.
