Vishal takes centre stage

Vishal Sajikumar starred with bat and ball for Willesboro­ugh as they beat Canterbury 3rds on Saturday.

Canterbury batted first at Polo Farm but were bowled out for 156 as Vishal Sajikumar produced his best figures for the club, claiming 5-21.

He backed up his five-fer with a season-best 72 not out as Willesboro­ugh (157-5) knocked the runs off in 34.2 overs.

Kennington’s Kent Regional League promotion hunt is going strong.

The Division 4 East side made it four wins on the spin after beating Willesboro­ugh 2nds by eight wickets.

Victory leaves them in second place in the table, 11 points adrift of Betteshang­er, with a game in hand.

Willesboro­ugh were inserted on Saturday and were 108 all out. Matthew Norman (26) and Cameron Jackson (23) top scored while David Finch took 4-18 for Kennington.

Jon Ghaemian had also taken 3-24 before leading Kennington to victory with an unbeaten 42.

Ashford Town (176-9) lost to OD CUACO (224-8) by 48 runs.

Town won the toss and elected to field but the run chase proved too much in the Kent Cricket League Division 2 match.

Craig Buckham (4-43) and Timothy Pichowski (3-30) claimed wickets while Simon Taylor (70) top scored in reply for Ashford.

Ashford’s 2nds completed a run chase against Downham & Bellingham with Neil Picton (41), James Rodway (28 not out) and Luke Harcourt (54 not out) standout batsmen.

Tenterden were 120 all out after opponents Old Wilsonians posted 276-5 off 50 overs.

Mersham’s 1sts and 2nds teams were well beaten.

The 1sts lost by 76 runs after being skittled for 83 against Deal Victoria & Barns Close.

The 2nds were set a target of 211 against Nelson 2nds but were restricted to 118-6 off 36 overs.
