Anyone hunting for the perfect property for their very own Grand Design may have had their prayers answered.

Three former church buildings in villages close to Ashford will go on sale at auction later this month.

Although one of the places of worship – a former chapel in Ruckinge – has already been converted into a one-bedroom detached home, there are two properties in Wye and Headcorn which could yet be transformed into stunning houses.

The churches are among 161 lots listed for sale by auctioneer Clive Emson ahead of its next sale on Wednesday, September 22.

“Both the unconverted buildings are in central positions in the two villages,” auctioneer Kevin Gilbert said.

“The interiors come with what you would expect to find in a church and are large spaces.

“It might be possible to convert them to residential use – such as has been done with the chapel in Ruckinge – as long as all necessary consents are obtainable.

“Church conversions remain popular and builders and developers might well be interested in these two buildings.

“The converted chapel just requires someone to move into it.”

Described as “an attractive building with a mezzanine room to the first floor”, the former church in Bridge Street, Wye, has a freehold guide price of £150,000 and above.

The second lot in the high street in Headcorn is listed with a freehold guide price of £130,000 and above.

While the third property, in Marsh Road, Ruckinge, which has already been converted has a freehold guide price of £150,000 and above.
