Two-goal Luke makes mark

-

Ashford 2nds drew 3-3 with Sevenoaks 3rds in South

East Invicta Men’s Division 1. After more than a year away from the game, Ashford scored first with Luke Wicken finishing a great team move. Sevenoaks levelled quickly after a rare mistake from

Rob Allan, although he made some outstanding saves. England over-40s player Rob Playford then showcased some amazing skills to make it 2-1 to Ashford after great work by captain Mike Wood, Sam Handley and Playford. Sevenoaks pressured and equalised as the game entered the final 15 minutes before Wicken stepped up again to give Ashford the lead once more.

But towards the end George Simm slipped for Sevenoaks to earn a share of the spoils. The 4ths earned a 3-1 victory against Marden 3rds in in South East Invicta Men’s Division 4.

Young Rory Mayes got down the right, linked-up well with Gary Maryan and broke the deadlock, before Maryan set up Matt Clifford for a 2-0 half-time advantage. Man-of-the-match was a close run thing but it was won by Tim Woodhouse.

The second half started with Marden piling on the pressure and they managed to get a goal back but a second in two games for Chris Browning made it two league successes out of two to round off the Ashford victory.

Ashford Men’s Crusaders enjoyed a thumping 7-0 away win to Sittingbourne.

They only led 1-0 at half-time but added a further six goals. The ladies’ 3rds earned an 8-2 success away to Beckenham.

Ashford’s first attempt at goal in the opening minutes saw Linda Charlton score the first of many for them, before she added a second later on, as they led 4-1 at half-time. Player-of-the-match Amelia Jacobs had an outstanding game and scored herself. Katie Gregson and Lottie Mitford-Slade both bagged braces, while Bronwyn Hall was on target, too.
