Goals flow in Ashford win

-

Ashford answered manager Tommy Warrilow’s call to be more clinical by sweeping aside Sevenoaks.

The Nuts & Bolts won 3-0 at Greatness Park on Saturday thanks to early goals from Tashi-Jay Kwayie and Tariq Ossai and a late third by Tommie Fagg.

Victory puts them fourth in Isthmian South East going into this Saturday’s home game against Whitstable, with a rearranged match at Hastings to come on Tuesday.

United go into the weekend in good spirits after rediscovering their touch in front of goal at Sevenoaks. “I was delighted with the three points,” Warrilow told the club website.

“We got ourselves three goals and then the added bonus of a well-earned clean sheet, so there’s plenty of positives to be taken from the game.

“It finally felt like we were back to our usual ways of creating an abundance of opportunities and chances. “In recent weeks, particularly against Hastings (in the FA Trophy), I felt like our choice of pass in the final third needed to be much better.

“But that wasn’t the case against Sevenoaks. The start of the game was very pleasing and I thought overall we bossed the game.” Kennington fell at the first hurdle in the Kent Senior Trophy - beaten 5-1 at home by Deal Town.

The in-form Hoops, on a run of seven straight wins in Southern Counties East, triumphed at Homelands thanks to a Tom Chapman hat-trick, Alfie Foster and Calvin Sedenu’s own goal. Chapman opened the scoring on 17 minutes and Foster added the second just before half-time as Deal took charge.

Gary Lockyer continued his hot streak by pulling a goal back early in the second half for Kennington but Sedenu put through his own net shortly after and Chapman wrapped up an emphatic win for the visitors with two more goals.

Kennington bid to avoid a hat-trick of defeats by Deal this season, having also lost in the league, when they meet again in the FA Vase first round at the Charles Ground this Saturday.

That’s followed by a trip to unbeaten Sheppey on Tuesday in the Southern Counties East Premier Division. The Ites are one of three teams currently top of the table on 28 points.
