Mishap on the buses in the 1960s
Many of us are reliant on public transport such as trains and buses and in normal circumstances they run without incident. However, occasionally things go wrong during operational service.
In recent months since the pandemic, public transport has taken a knocking and indeed encountered problems operating a normal and efficient service with what has been reported as a shortage of drivers.
It has been said that the drivers have been taking the brunt of disgruntled passengers more than the companies themselves.
This is largely due to a lack of timely information for the passengers who are being left out in the cold. Sadly in the modern world, the passenger is often the last to know in many a service provided. Communication is often lacking and if this was tightened up and apologies were offered when the service isn’t there, passengers would be more accommodating.
Service providers often expect the passenger to be a mind reader and wonder why the passenger is left angry when they have been left waiting for the bus that doesn’t turn up and when tools such as apps say that the bus is on its way when in fact it’s not.
Back in the bygone days, double-decker buses were commonplace in our towns and cities and pictures from past eras offer a nostalgic look at how transport fitted in the with the time concerned. This week, Remember When takes a look back to the start of the 1960s at an unfortunate event where a minor collision has taken place between two double-decker buses and a motor vehicle in what is still today’s haven for buses - Bank Street.
