Brave stand against Russia

-

The number of British nationals who have gone or are planning to go to Ukraine to join forces alongside the beleaguered nation’s people seems to be increasing by the day. Drawn from different backgrounds some of them ex-soldiers - their courage is to be applauded.

This is a cause for hope that their participation will make a crucial difference in helping to minimize the casualty rate of Ukrainians fighting valiantly for their sovereign nation.

But our ineffectual Prime Minister is not in favour of supporting them and has openly warned that they could be in breach of a British law, whereas, Liz Truss has expressed a contrary view and offered volunteers her approval.

Army chiefs have banned British soldiers from heading to Ukraine in spite of a desire by some to strengthen the country’s embattled forces.

Meanwhile, the robust sanctions imposed on Russia are gathering momentum but their design to break Putin’s intransigence may serve only to harden his resolve to bring about the total destruction of Ukraine.

European leaders and the American President in particular are complicit in prolonging the suffering and bloodshed of a nation bravely making a

stand against the might and brutality of the Russian military.

The politicians’ response to the crisis has been woefully inadequate as the situation becomes more desperate and the death toll amongst civilians continue to rise, there remains a reluctance to act decisively by those in a position to protect the hapless people of Ukraine. Michael Smith
