Overpaid for doing nothing

RE: Traffic. We wait for soothing and meaningles­s words from ministers along with rhetoric and promises for immediate action, which is no more than them just trying to buy time in the hope all will settle down and be forgotten.

One problem is that nobody knows who is really responsibl­e for sorting out this catastroph­e - KCC, Kent Resilience Forum (KRF), Highways England, DfT and so the list goes on.

Is it me, or are there a lot of highly paid individual­s doing, and achieving nothing, on our behalf ?

The most important single fact is, no matter what politician­s, from all colours might say, the solution will be secured outside Dover and Folkestone and to improve roads locally would initially be a waste of taxpayers’ money.

The base problem is as obvious as the answer is simple.

There are too many trucks to stack/hold on the M20 or A2 so, the solution must be, to create sites, off these main highways, where they can be held.

This is not rocket science and seems obvious and simple but, will allow us ‘locals’ to go about our daily lives and give truckers the decent facilities they deserve. These sites would be linked to both the tunnel and Dover Port who would call trucks forward when they were ready to receive/ process them.

The government has shown with the use of Special Developmen­t Orders work could start on such sites within months. The drawback is, they would have to be very large, with each able to accommodat­e some 5,000plus trucks on the M20 and A2.

Trucks would have to report there to be booked in for the ferry or tunnel, no more just turning up or trying to find others ways to the terminals via our inadequate local roads.

This might infuriate the

‘greens’ among us but sometime decisions have to be taken for the general good and well-being of society including both locals and truckers.

carriagewa­y, when only two lines of lorries are parked on this closed carriagewa­y, which is a good four-lane carriagewa­y (including the hard shoulder), thus forcing all coastbound non-freight vehicles onto the A20 or over on to the M2/ A2. It seems to me the millions of pounds spent on setting up Brock was complete waste of money and certainly doesn’t help local traffic or non freight traffic to the coast.

I’m sure there are far cleverer than me making these decisions but an explanatio­n would be good.
