Cooper raises the bar

Amanda Cooper of Ashford Striders ran a personal-best time on Sunday at the Belfast Marathon.

She completed the course in 4hr37min56­sec.

Martin Whittingha­m ran the Great Birmingham Run HalfMarath­on, finishing in 2:27.19.

Caroline Miller ran the Vitality London 10,000 in 1:00.50.

Closer to home, three Striders ran the Whitstable 10k. Kay Hunt was the first Strider in 58min28sec, followed by Vicky Shrubsole and Sharni Copham who finished in 1:04.43 and 1:04.44 respective­ly.

On Saturday, three club members took part in the Doddington Place Gardens trail event.

Completing the 10k race were Justine Wearn in 1:05.50 and Lisa Fulcher in 1:16.59, while Nicola Crawley and her dog Delilah timed 29.18 for the 5k.

Members of Ashford Striders made the most of the three-day Bank Holiday weekend, running at many different parkruns. A group of Ashford & District Road Running Club runners went to the Doddington Place Gardens 5k and 10k event.

In the 5k, Julius Samson came home in third place overall in 21.25 and Michael Stanley was close behind in 22.54, with Peter Buckley finishing his race in 29.14.

John Fidge crossed the line in 1:03.00 and Anne Fidge saw off the competitio­n in her age group and crossed the line in 1:05.00.

Helen Weedon finished 1:00.56 for fourth in her age group and Steve Hodges came first V50 and fifth overall with 45.46 while son

Kieran was second overall and ran a personal best of 42.19.

Simon Jackson set a course personal best for him of 51.34 at the Vitality London 10,000, with Daniel Head clocking an encouragin­g 43.17.

Hodgson completed the

Phoenix Steam Punk run in 3:27.34.

In Whitstable, Sarah Taylor finished her 10k race in 1:04.19, Hugh Scarlin ran 43.57 and Paul Crisp achieved a personal-best time with 37.42.

Christine Costiff ran the Hastings parkrun in 21.27 while Aidan Gorham timed 16.49 at Ashford.

Holly Forrest, meanwhile, tackled the half-marathon distance at the St George’s Day Marathon and stopped the clock on 3:17.14.

In similar fashion, the Maverick Adidas Terrex event was run by Suzi Wicken, who completed the 14k course with a time of 1:59.00.

Becky Hodgson completed a half-marathon distance at Cyclopark for a time of 3:09.47 while Trevor Sparkes finished in 56.48 at the Chatham Maritime 10k.

Michael Stanley competed in the Howletts 5k, finishing in a time of 20.33.
