One Deadly Weekend in America (BBC3) For some, it’s the month that marks the start of the summer holidays - but in the US, July is also typically the time of year when the highest number of people are shot and killed. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Ursula Macfarlane, this eye-opening documentary focuses on seven very different shootings that took place across the US over the course of a single weekend, from South Central Los Angeles to rural South Carolina. The film hears from survivors, witnesses, family members and law enforcement agencies, and also draws on CCTV and news footage, although not all of these shootings made the mainstream media. In the process, it explores America’s relationship with guns and the young lives that have been devastated by violent crime.
