Fast and live at O2

-

Do enough people love Fast and Furious to fill a stadium?

That’s the gamble being taken by three British producers who have created a live event based on the wonderfully silly franchise. They’ve spent £25 million on it, and their expectations are huge.

James Cooke-priest, one of the producers, said he hopes it will rank alongside other gamechanging moments in entertainment history.

He said: “For me personally it was Cirque du Soleil which reinvented the circus, Pixar and Toy Story for animation and ipod for music. They raised the expectations of what was possible.”

The concept is to take 18 real set-pieces from the movies and recreate them in a two-hour show, but instead of just being a loud stunt show, there will be actors and a narrative.

The show has been fully sanctioned by Universal Pictures – so no knock-0ff F&f-esque branding – and Vin Diesel has said he will make an appearance.

The show opens at London’s O2 in January 2018, and then goes on tour, visiting 23 cities across 14 countries.

It’ll have supercars, fuel tankers, explosions and even a submarine smashing through ice.

It sounds bonkers – and I really, really want to go.
