IT’S A JOLLY MUSICAL

-

The double Oscar-winning Sherman Brothers – Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman – remain one of the most formidable songwriting teams in entertainment history.

From 1964 onwards they produced music, songs and scores for dozens of films, now family favourites, including Disney’s best-loved titles such as Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Jungle Book, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Charlotte’s Web and The Aristocats.

The prolific brothers were the sons of Al Sherman who wrote songs for the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and many from the golden American Songbook era. Robert J Sherman, the son of Robert B Sherman and a successful composer in his own right, has brought the story of one family’s century-long, award-winning musical journey to the stage with A Spoonful of Sherman and includes songs from his own musical, Love Birds, which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015. It also features the sing-along classics A Spoonful of Sugar, I Wanna Be Like You, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers, Jolly Holiday and Chim-chim-cher-ee.

The cast includes Olivier Award nominated Sophie-louise Dann, with Glen Facey, Jenna Innes, Mark Read and Ben Stock and is directed and choreographed by Stewart Nicholls. A Spoonful of Sherman comes to the EM Forster Theatre in Tonbridge between Wednesday, February 14 and Saturday, February 17. To book tickets from £18, visit boxoffice.tonbridge-school.co.uk/home.
