Former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker’s coming to Thanet

-

Britpop star Jarvis Cocker will play an intimate show in Thanet next week. Playing under the name JARV, he has chosen to play Ramsgate Music Hall as one of only a handful of intimate gigs across the country.

A figurehead of the Britpop movement of the mid-1990s, Jarvis was the voice behind hits such as Disco 2000 and Common People. Following a successful oneoff show at Sigur Ros’ festival in Iceland at the end of last year the band wanted to present what they are doing to audiences across the UK, and Thanet has been a firm favourite of Jarvis’s.

He Djed at Dreamland’s By The Sea Festival in 2016 and has also been spotted at the attraction having a day out. Jarvis will be singing, with Serafina Steer on harp and keyboards, Emma Smith on violin, Andrew Mckinney on bass and Adam Betts of Three Trapped Tigers on drums.

In a statement the band said of the show “Most of the songs are new but some will be familiar.”

It also said of the band: “JARV is entirely implausible; JARV is louder than you might expect; JARV is a rave in a cave; JARV is a work in progress; JARV is ancient & modern at the same time; JARV is an experiment and JARV is a live experience with no barriers.”

The gig will be at Ramsgate Music Hall on Wednesday, March 28 at 7.30pm. Entry costs £22.50 and there are no age restrictions.
