Kentish Express Ashford & District - What's On

WHAT’S ON THE MENU

-

It’s just over a year since the Barrow House opened its newly-decorated doors to locals in Egerton, near Ashford.

Only the second spring for the team, they have taken inspiration from the scent of blossom, wild garlic and newly-mown lawns for their spring menu.

The former George Inn was the second Kent foodie business venture for New Zealander Dane Allchorne and wife Sarah, after taking on the 16th century Bull pub in Sissinghurst and turning it into the Milk House.

The new menu is packed with seasonal ingredients and fresh flavours, such as Parmesan crumbed artichokes with saffron and preserved lemon mayo, warm lamb wrap with aubergine, spinach and chilli yoghurt and the Red Snapper, courgette French fries, lemon cauliflower and salsa verde. There’s also a healthy pot of culinary gold with chargrilled aubergine, rocket, yoghurt and toasted almond salad.

The team also mark the reopening of their pizza oven for the season on Monday, April 16.

Pizzas range from the Luscious Lenham Hen and the Pluckley Prosciutto to the Spicy Smarden, plus many local favourites.

There are also sourdough pizzas, topped with local charcuterie, cheese and fresh herbs and, for later in the year, visitors will be able to enjoy them on the outdoor terrace, where there could even be sun at some point. Pizzas are also available to take away. The pub has much going on as part of the new season, including regular comedy nights on Thursday nights and live music on Friday nights.

Live local music alongside bites and beers include Erin Bloomer on Friday, April 13, and Katie Kittermaster on Friday, April 27.

Holly Thomas entertains on Friday, May 11 and Ashley Ross follows on Friday, May 25, with More Than Echoes playing on Friday, June 8.

Comedy nights on Thursdays and include tickets at £15 for comedy & curry, with a maximum table of eight people.
