Kentish Express Ashford & District - What's On

A HOME GIG

World famous violinist André Rieu’s annual Maastricht concert is being screened live in cinemas across the county - and he’s hoping to get people dancing in the aisles.

The concert Amore - My Tribute to Love, is a tribute to his love for music and his family and follows the release of his album of the same name last year. André said: “I always try to give people something for the eye as well so I am very proud and happy about the popularity of my concerts on the big screen. I heard messages from abroad that people were dancing in the aisles of the cinemas.”

He has also asked for messages of love from viewers which he will try to read out. “To be able to bring the concert from my beautiful home town of Maastricht direct to cinemas for my fans in the UK every year is such a thrill! My orchestra and I get so excited about our romantic open-air shows. Music is, as they say, the food of love! That is what this show is all about, all types of love. So, we thought what a wonderful way it would be to celebrate this with my British fans than to invite them to submit their dedications for their loved ones, which I shall read out before a very special song in Maastricht that they will see wherever they may be watching across the UK.” He added: “I will be playing all kinds of pieces during the concert; wonderful waltzes will be heard but also outstanding arias from famous operas and beloved melodies from movies and musicals.”

The concert this weekend performed in André’s hometown Maastricht and hosted by Good Morning Britain presenter Charlotte Hawkins will be streamed on Saturday, 28 July 7pm and Sunday, July 29 at 3pm. There will be showings at Odeon in Maidstone, Chatham and Tunbridge Wells, Cineworld in Rochester, Trinity Theatre, Tunbridge Wells, Kino cinema, Hawkhurst, Criterion Cinema, Sheerness, and Showcase Cinema, Bluewater.
