Live bands keeping it local

Catch some of Kent’s best-loved musicians performing this week

-

One of the county’s favourite local bands, Marylebone Jelly, are kicking off the weekend with a Friday night gig in an unusual location.

The group, which formed in Sittingbourne more than 25 years ago, will be performing a string of floor-filling hits at Maidstone’s farmyard attraction, Kent Life, on Friday, March 22.

It’s not often that the attraction has live bands playing inside its barn, but this week there will not only be a great covers set from Marylebone Jelly but also an adults-only disco and food vendors selling burgers and hot dogs.

That’s not the only place you can see some of the county’s renowned local bands this weekend as Whitstable-based band Hullabaloo is also gearing up to perform.

The group, known for their unique jazz and swing twist on pop anthems, have played at events such as Hop Festival and Herne Bay Festival and will be back at Faversham’s Alexander Centre on Saturday, March 22 for a night of jiving

pop tunes. The band will be supported by the Beard Conspiracy.

Now for something completely different as controversial comic Jim

Davidson is back on the road, bringing his white-knuckle jokes to the Orchard West Theatre in Dartford.

The comedian, who is also known for presenting shows such as Big Break and the Generation Game in the 1990s, has been performing stand-up for more than six decades.

His grown-up jokes have caused a stir in the past, and fans can see what outrageous things are coming out of his mouth these days at his show on Sunday, March 24.

If you’re a fan of 1980s music, grab your leg warmers and be one of the first to see a brand new musical set to a soundtrack of pop hits.

I Should Be So Lucky,

a new production from songwriting trio Stock Aitken Waterman, is making its world debut at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley from Tuesday, March 26 to Saturday, March 30.

It features music from the likes of Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, Jason Donovan and Bananarama and is choreographed by Jason Gilkison, the creative director of Strictly Come Dancing.

Finally, irreverent comedian Paul Foot is heading out on tour with his most personal show to date.

Talking about everything from self- identity and the meaning of life to the House of Lords and Cliff Richard, you never know what to expect from the award-winning comic.

Fans who might have seen Paul on shows such as Would I Lie to You, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown can catch him at the Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells on Thursday, March 28.
