Brothers in arms

Tissues at the ready as one of musical theatre’s biggest tear-jerkers is back on tour.

Blood Brothers, the emotional tale of long-lost family, has been touring the country since last year and is returning to Kent for four nights this spring.

Despite being performed all over the world for more than 40 years, the show is often still a sell-out at theatres across the country and is set to have a whole new generation laughing, crying and gripping the edge of their seats with its current production.

The dramatic story, created by writer and composer Willy Russell, is based in Liverpool between the 1950s and 1980s and follows twin brothers, Eddie and Mickey, who are separated at birth and grow up living very different lives.

Since making its debut on the West End in 1983, the musical has received three Olivier Awards and has been nominated for six Tony Awards.

After surpassing 10,000 West End performances, being one of only three musicals to have done so, the production is now heading out on tour with an X Factor star in tow.

Niki Colwell Evans, who competed in the singing contest in 2007 under the mentorship of Louis Walsh and made it all the way to the finals, is reprising her role as Mrs Johnstone. Since appearing on the X Factor, Niki has made a name for herself as a theatre favourite in stage productions such as Kinky Boots and Legally Blonde.

Blood Brothers is at the Orchard West Theatre - the Orchard Theatre’s temporary home - in Dartford from Wednesday, April 3 to Saturday, April 6. Book online or by calling 03433 100033.
