Music fans spoiled rotten

This week, Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon is coming to Kent, plus Sam Lawrie has picked out four other must-see shows

-

It’s good news for punk fans this week as former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon is heading out on tour - but don’t expect to hear any music.

The punk pioneer, formerly known as Johnny Rotten, will instead be sharing stories and answering questions during his new solo spoken word show.

The evening will take fans from the singer’s early days at Vivienne Westwood’s London boutique to becoming one of the UK’S most controversial musicians, with plenty of audience interaction and anecdotes from the singer’s memoir. He will be at Folkestone’s Leas Cliff Hall on Friday, May 3.

Now, from one flamboyant performer to another, Strictly fan favourite Johannes Radebe is back in the county for another round of his new show.

The dancer will be welcoming fans to the House of Jojo, an extravagant production featuring sizzling routines, colourful costumes and feel-good songs.

The performer will bring a flavour of his childhood in

South Africa to the show, as well as his impressive ballroom and Latin moves from more than 20 years in the business, to the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5.

Self-confessed Swiftie Katy Ellis is bringing her tribute to one of the world’s most talked

about singers to the Orchard West Theatre in Dartford on Sunday, May 5.

The Taylor Swift impersonator will perform huge hits such as Shake It Off, Blank Space, Love Story, I Knew You Were Trouble and more with a live band and dancers.

You never know, she might

even throw in a song or two from Taylor’s new 31-track album, the Tortured Poets Department.

Now, it’s time to take a walk down Hollywood Boulevard and go on a shopping spree in Beverly Hills with

Pretty Woman the Musical.

The rom-com is heading out

on its first UK tour, starring 2017 Love Island winner Amber Davies and TV host and Strictly champ Ore Oduba.

It’s based on the 1990 blockbuster with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere and features a new score by Bryan Adams and Grammy Award-winning songwriter Jim Vallance.

The show is coming to the Churchill Theatre in Bromley from Monday, May 6 to Saturday, May 11 and will also return to Kent with five nights at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury this July.

If you’re looking for something a little more familyfriendly, there’s a live stage adaptation of children’s show In the Night Garden coming to The Woodville, Gravesend on Wednesday, May 8 and Thursday, May 9.

Join characters such as Igglepiggle, Makka Pakka and Upsy Daisy, who are brought to life with vibrant costumes and puppets, as they find their friends in the garden with interactive moments and captivating music for the kids to enjoy.

The colourful stage adaptation of the TV show, which was written and composed by Teletubbies co-creator Andrew Davenport, has been running for 15 years and seen by more than one million people.

It's ideal for children aged up to four years old and there's no minimum age, so it's a great way for infants to experience the theatre for the first time.
